Meet Jess
About Jess
Jessica’s decision to study speech therapy was sparked by her interest in language and education, love of reading and writing, and desire to work with children. After graduating with distinction from the University of Cape Town, she completed a year of community service at Red Cross Children’s Hospital. She then spent two years working with a team of therapists at The Reading Language Gym, a private practice in Cape Town. In 2019 she obtained a master’s degree with distinction. Her dissertation focused on intervention to improve primary school children’s reading skills. Jessica taught speech therapy students and lectured for the Communication Sciences and Disorders Division at the University of Cape Town in 2019 and 2020. In January 2021 she opened her own private practice in Claremont and started working at preschools and primary schools.
She is currently based at Southern Suburbs schools (including SACS) in the mornings and at her office (112 Belvedere Road, Claremont) in the afternoons. Jessica’s special interests include therapy for speech sound disorders and dyslexia.
Jessica enjoys facilitating improvements in speech, language and literacy to help children participate fully in social and academic activities. She strives to increase children’s communication confidence and inspire a love of reading and writing.
In her free time, Jessica likes to read, run, paint and spend time outdoors.
